That's a whole lot of sand!

5/26/2019

170 miles and about three hours southwest of Colorado Springs you’ll find the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Along the way we saw beautiful rolling hillsides backdropped by snow-capped mountains and the Spanish Peaks. We stopped in for lunch at the Busy Bee Cafe & Malt Shop in Walsenburg. The family-owned diner is popular with the locals and offers a nice variety of menu items, including breakfast all day. They are located on the west side of town on Highway 160. We also stopped at the Veterans Memorial in Fort Garland. There is a lodge located near the park entrance for those inclined to spend the night. Follow I-25 South to Highway 160 West, then turn right on 150 and follow to the park.
