Enjoy over one million glittering lights and 40+ animated light sculptures that illuminate the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Electric Safari during the winter holidays. Warming fires throughout the property offer relief from the chill, as do select indoor animal exhibits that remain open during the event. The last night to celebrate this season will be Sunday, January 1, 2017 from 5:30pm - 8:30pm.
Ute Valley Park consists of various trails and connector trails that weave through a scrub oak lined sandstone canyon and rise to a hogback ridge. Awesome views of Pike's Peak can be seen from the park, as well as views of Cheyenne Mountain, Garden of the Gods, Pulpit Rock, and more. That combined with an interesting landscape make this a terrific place to hike without even leaving town! The trailhead I chose began just south of Pinion Valley Park and can be found by taking Mule Deer Road east from Centennial Blvd. As always when hiking be sure to stay hydrated. You'll also want to watch out for rattle snakes, which are known to be in this area.
The Broadmoor World Arena is an 8,000 seat multi-purpose arena and entertainment venue. The arena opened in 1998. Tuesday night the arena was packed for the For King & Country Christmas Concert Tour with Lauren Daigle. The arena has a magnificant sound system and just about anywhere you are seated ensures you of a good view. Visit the website below for a list of coming events.
You never know what you'll find unless you get out there and explore. Today after lunch I was headed back to my car on Tejon Street (free parking today courtesy of the City of Colorado Springs for the holidays) when I discovered this place. They are a local Chocolatier and have some unique candy selections. Cacao (pronounced ka-KOW) Chemistry was founded in 2014 by Sam Lang and Travis Ashing, the combination of a chef and an engineer. They hand-produce every truffle in small batches using only the finest French chocolate and follow the philosophy that ingredients that pair well together share similarities at the chemical level. Stop in today for a free sample and pick up some nicely packaged chocolates—always a great holiday gift idea.
