Simpich Museum & Theatre

11/23/2016

[125] In the heart of Old Colorado City I discovered David Simpich and his world of Marionette shows.  Today I was fortunate enough to have a second row seat for the performance of The Puppet Maker, A Story of Christmas.  The theater was full and the audience attentive as the story unfolded with the perfect mix of humor and passion.  Such detail the puppet maker has lovingly placed into each character as the Christmas story is shared from the very depths of his heart and soul.  See and hear the story of Christmas as it is meant to be seen and heard.  Take time to explore the museum and art gallery before or after the show.

Nourish Organic Juice

11/21/2016

You can't help but feel good about yourself when you start your day with an all natural, organic juice or smoothie from this place.  Monday a few members of our MeetUp group got together for just that, topped off with some enjoyable conversation.  Suzanne had the Pumpkinator, a seasonal smoothie with pumpkin and other fresh ingredients. Lauren tried The Glow, a juice with apple, kale, beet, carrot, and lemon, and I had the Power Up smoothie with banana, pineapple, spinach, celery, coconut milk, flax oil, raw protein, and almond butter.  I was feeling so good I was ready to hike The Incline. Then I remembered they're closed for repairs. Whew, I got out of it that time!

Jorge's Mexican Restaurant

11/14/2016

Today I had the lunch special at Jorge's. Three beef enchiladas with your choice of rice or beans and topped with red or green chile sauce for under $8. It was delicious and very filling! My server Gisel was awesome too. We'll be returning to Jorge's this Saturday, November 19th at noon if any of you locals care to join us. Just text or call me, or you can email me at chandler@discovercos,com.

Seven Falls

11/14/2016

It was yet another beautiful November day here in Colorado Springs. Adventure called and I responded by going to Seven Falls. The first time I climbed these stairs was with my mom, dad, and sister 40 years ago, all 224 of them. Today they were busy putting up the Christmas lights for the season, of which many were lit by the time I left the canyon. Unfortunately my camera battery didn't last long enough to capture any of them. Oh well, there's always next time.

Pauline Chapel

11/7/2016

This beautiful chapel was named after Spencer Penrose's daughter. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by The Broadmoor resort.   Built in 1919, the Chapel was not dedicated as a Catholic church until 1925.  In 1918, Spencer Penrose submitted two designs for the chapel. The second was chosen.  Services are held every Sunday at 9:00am.

British Pantry & Tea Room

11/3/2016

What a fun shop to explore!  You'll feel as if you have been transported to Britain.  It's packed with gifts and food items imported from Europe and you can't help but feel like a kid in a candy store, wanting to sample everything you see.  I tried a can of Tizer (British Pop) that was quite refreshing.  I also bought a package of crumpets to go with the Mountain Peach spread I purchased down the street at The Honey Cottage.  What a delicious combination!  While exploring I discovered an interesting book about the Titanic that looks to be a great read as well as an awesome Christmas gift for someone on my list.  How cool it is to experience a little bit of England right here in Colorado Springs!  They also have a cafe open on the weekends.

The Honey Cottage

11/3/2016

This afternoon I stopped in at The Honey Cottage to get some Christmas gift ideas.  I was quite pleased with all the local (and Colorado) products they offer.  Frank and I were discussing some great cooking ideas when he offered me a sample of the Mountain Peach whipped wildflower honey, made with real Palisade peaches in Durango.  Wow!  I snatched up a jar real quick and couldn't wait to try it on the crumpets I purchased down the street at Willy's Emporium.  I was not disappointed!  What a great combination!

Manitou Cliff Dwellings

11/3/2016

This year marks the 40th anniversary of my first visit to the Manitou Cliff Dwellings.  It certainly brought back some fond memories of wonderful times with the family.  This is a great place to spend an hour or two exploring the fascinating architecture of the ancient Anasazi and browsing through the museum and beautiful gift shop. The magic and mystery of the Native American culture is a delightful experience for visitors of all ages.
