With all the positive presidential campaign talk somehow making me feel patriotic, I ended up at Uncle Sam's Pancake House in Manitou Springs. This red, white, and blue decorated business is family owned and features All-American cooking for breakfast and lunch. Military Discounts are available to those who have served our country. I chose the Country Omelette smothered in gravy which included potatoes and toast or pancakes. The warm syrup surprised me by being liquid thin, but it and everything else was quite good.

To be fair, Bad Daddy's is not a Colorado based restaurant, but after a coworker told me about this place, I simply had to experience it for myself. They actually started in North Carolina and now have locations in South Carolina, Tennessee, and Colorado. The burger she described was exactly as she said and was absolutely loaded with a mound of jalapeno bacon. It was too big even for my mouth, so I opted to eat it open-face. The green chili and cheese tots were recommended by my server and an awesome choice indeed! You can even build your own burger if you don't see one on the menu that grabs you. Bad Daddy's is located in the new addition of the Promenade Shops at Briargate near Focus on the Family.
Just a few weeks since their grand opening, this farm-inspired open kitchen restaurant and mercantile is definitely worth checking out. Locally owned and operated, it is sister to the Garden of the Gods Gourmet Cafe on the west side, only much bigger. My BLTA sandwich was so fresh and tasty, and included a side of Miner's Potatoes, seasoned and cooked just right. The perfect end to my awesome meal included a brownie drizzled with carmel. Be sure to take time to browse through the adjoining mercantile store and check out the active beehive on the wall. The indoor hive reminded me of the ones they used to have at the long extinct Nickerson's Farm Restaurants back east. Till owners take great pride in sourcing menu items through quality local vendors based right here in the Colorado Springs area. You're going to love it.

It was Friday evening...I-25 was backed up due to a crash, so I made my way to Nevada Avenue. I was hungry, but not for fast food. Then I thought of Trivelli's! Usually I have the Cheesesteak, but somehow the Meatball Hoagie sounded good, and it WAS! I also had an order of fries (half-off fries on Fridays!) and a drink. I love the way they still have regular salt for the fries. Sea salt is fine, but sometimes you crave good old-school table salt! The food was great and is always served up with a smile!

I've been to this place enough times that they recognize me when I come in now. I did overhear a couple nearby whispering to the waiter, "Is that Alec Baldwin over there?", something that happens to me quite often. I looked up and we all shared a laugh. They even wanted to get a picture of us together to which I obliged. It was a fun evening. A smiling Amber soon brought my order of cheesy garlic bread out followed by one of my favorites...pepperoni pizza! Both were awesome as usual. Good food, friends, and family...you'll experience it all at Roman Villa.

This evening I had a nice dinner at Navajo Hogans. My server Paige provided great service and recommended the broasted chicken. I had the cheese soup along with mashed potatoes and gravy and it was quite tasty. They also offer a variety of pizzas and burgers. More recently they've become connected to Southside Johnny's on South Tejon and have live music on Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 9:00pm.
I stopped in to try this place for lunch and had the 8" Cheese Steak sub with chips and a drink. It was pretty good, even though I opted not to have any condiments or veggies on it. That's something I'll probably not completely exclude next time. The Italian sub is one of their specialties. They also have shakes, including a wild cherry one that has peaked my interest.
Another great choice for downtown dining is the Sonterra Southwest Grill on Tejon Street. It didn't take me long to look at the menu before deciding on the Grilled Coriander Bourbon & Orange Glazed Back Ribs. Brent, my awesome server, agreed it was a great choice. Fork tender and mouthwateringly delicious! My complements to Chef Joshua Davis for a wonderful meal. Live music on Friday and Saturday evenings will even further enhance your dining experience. Don't forget, parking is FREE after 6pm.
UPDATE: 8/18/2019 This restaurant has permanently closed.
