I've spotted this restaurant a few times while driving down Colorado Avenue but somehow let myself think it was a chain restaurant rather than one unique to our area. I'm SO happy I finally stopped in and found out I was wrong! Owners Dennis and JoAnn Trujillo opened Dat's Italian in 2010, and once you are there all it takes is a little time and you'll see that it is a labor of love by them and their many family members who genuinely do all they can to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Dennis stopped by my table and introduced himself and Maia made sure I was well taken care of. I chose the Lasagna, and to my delight I must say it may be one of the best tasting, if not the best I've ever had! It was just the right portion and wonderfully presented. Afterwards, Dennis offered me a Cannoli for dessert. It was absolutely awesome! My experience was outstanding and I feel like part of the family already. I look forward to another visit very soon. Thank you Trujillo family and keep up the good work!
After an absolutely wonderful evening walk through downtown Manitou Springs, a stop at Savelli's ended up being the right choice. I chose a small all-meat pizza that was both delicious and filling and I ended up having to take some home. The tables were full of happy customers as well as some who came by for orders to go. Established in 1998 by the Dreher Family, Savelli's pizzas are made with quality cheeses and toppings. Their sauce and dough are handmade, fresh daily, and their pasta sauces are made from authentic Italian recipes. The next time you're in Manitou, stop in and say hello to the great folks at Savellis.
It was great to be out at the Flying W Ranch to help them celebrate their 64th year. Over 400 people attended this one time event for 2016. They hope to reopen to the public but no official opening date has been confirmed.
El Taco Reyis an awesome downtown cafe that has been under the great care of the Aguilar family since 1976. It's often tough to find a seat in the small eatery during lunch hours, but something generally opens up pretty quick and there's also seating on the patio. I had the Thursday special...4 shredded beef taqitos on a bed of lettuce and guacamole, served with rice, beans and a flour tortilla with drink for just $8.99. The food is consistantly delicous. There's plenty of free parking in the lot directly behind the restaurant, accessible from Wasatch Street.
Who'd have thought I could have found such a tasty slice of homemade cake in this Dive? Well I did! I chose the Cherry Chip. It was moist and fresh and reminded me of those my wife, her mom and grandmother made! Wishing I had been more hungry the day I stopped, especially after seeing all the great looking food being taken to the full tables around me. I'll definitely be returning to this Old Colorado City cafe to experience more!

A 730.2 acre regional park centrally located in the metro Colorado Springs area. It became a park in 1907 and is named after city founder, William Jackson Palmer. It contains over 25 miles of trails, a dog park, an off-leash dog area, two baseball fields, a football/soccer field, three volleyball courts, a community playground, horse stables, and several picnic grounds. A great place to feel like you're in the mountains while actually being in the heart of town!
For over 40 years this family-owned German Restaurant on the south side of Colorado Springs has served over a million happy customers. Strolling musicians perform on Friday and Saturday nights. An authentic menu with a variety of Old World German dishes includes Schnitzel, Bratwurst, and Sauerbraten, with newer-age items such as Flammekuchen and Maultaschen. For those not so adventurous palates Edelweiss offers other Continental fare such as Chicken Cordon Bleu, Filet Tournedos, or Fresh Salmon Filet. Imported German Beers and Wines can be ordered to compliment any of the flavorful dishes. I stopped by between lunch and dinner today and had the Chicken Cordon Bleu on a Kaiser Roll served with potato salad. It was both tender and delicious. The piece of German Chocolate cake really made a nice finish to the meal. Usually we sit on the patio but today's cool and drizzly day made sitting inside by the fireplace a more suitable alternative.
