I've been a fan of the Abukhdeir family's Heart of Jerusalem Cafe since discovering it a few years ago while strolling through downtown Manitou Springs. They've been serving authentic Middle Eastern food in Colorado Springs since 2007, and have since added two new locations. This time I stopped by the Austin Bluffs location and had the Ultimate Sandwich-Panini Style. It's made with a mix of beef, lamb, and chicken breast and grilled to perfection. Naturally I had to have some homemade Baklava, a real treat and the best I've ever had anywhere!

What in the world took me so long to try this?!?! A couple of friends of mine frequent this place often and have told me about it on several occasions. Today I discovered why they like it so much. If you are looking for some great local fast food, this is the spot! I had the Carne Asada Supreme Quesadilla. It was awesome! They're conveniently located on 21st Street just south of Cimarron (Highway 24) near Old Colorado City. Don't be loco like me and wait forever to try this place! La comida mexicana es deliciosA!

UnitedCOS members had a nice lunch at the Caspian Cafe, conveniently located on Sinton Road just off Garden of the Gods Road and I-25. They offer a variety of Mediterranean selections in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere. I chose the Spain inspired Avocado Orange and Almond Salad, a very tasty blend of mixed greens with orange segments, tomato, red onion, almonds and avocado tossed in an orange vinaigrette and garnished with black olives and sun dried tomatoes. Other entrees included the France themed Moules Mariniere, Mussels steamed in white wine with fresh garlic, shallots and Herbs de Provence, finished with a touch of cream and fresh parsley and the Cafe House Salad with mixed baby greens, cucumbers, black currants, sun dried tomatoes, red onions, candied sesame and fresh tomatoes. Kudos to Chef Daniel White and the fine staff for a great dining experience.
I'm happy to have discovered yet another great Mexican restaurant. Opened in 2011, the Crystal Park Cantina is nestled into a hillside above Manitou Springs in the Crystal Hills area. Two young deer were playing on the hillside above as we walked up to the front of the restaurant. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating is available, but by six o'clock it was beginning to fill up. We started out with some great homemade chips and salsa. Erin was awesome in helping us make our dinner selections. I chose the steak burrito. It was tender and had been marinated in pineapple juice and other seasoning. It came with a choice of three sauces. I selected the Red Mole and was very pleased. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Who's going with me?
The Tick Tock Shop on Circle Drive has been my source for watches and watch batteries for years. David Mattson first opened the store in 1974. Sons Carl and Jonathan now manage the family business. The shop offers the largest selection of watches and clocks in Colorado. Hundreds of clocks (including more than 60 grandfather clocks) and over 1000 new watches are on display. They have a staff of five repair technicians, in addition to two generations of the Mattson family working together to keep your timepieces ticking. Even the clock tower outside the building was set perfectly to the correct time when I stopped by today. The Tick Tock Shop is a great source for unique gift ideas too. Isn't it "about time" you stopped by?
When I think of quality plants and flowers, the first place that comes to my mind is Platte Floral. With the warmer weather upon us, it's time to think about sprucing up the patio or deck. Today I dropped by to get some ideas for mine. Sending flowers out of town for a special occasion? Give the fine folks at Platte Floral a call...they do it all! They even have some great furniture and other items designed for your outdoor spaces.
Located downtown on Tejon Street between Kiowa and Bijou, Bingo Burger has been serving up fresh, local, grass-fed beef, chicken, lamb, and veggie burgers since 2014. The first location opened in Pueblo in 2010. I had the Bessemer, abeef burger named after a city once adjacent and now a part of the City of Pueblo. It was incorporated in 1886 after the Colorado Gold Rush of 1859. The burger, topped with Pueblo chili jack cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce was delicious, and so were the fries with bacon-mayo dipping sauce! The staff were friendly and helpful, and management spent time in the dining area greeting customers and ensuring they were completely satisfied. Who's up for some Bingo?

Established in 1958 by Leo and Anne Cervetti, Luigi's is a great place to enjoy some homemade Italian food while catching up with special friends or family. The restaurant is quaint and comfortable and offers a variety of menu items as well as bottled water and drinks imported from Italy. We sat by the fireplace as recommended by a friend of mine. Linda ordered the Lasagna and Ed the Pizza, both house specialties. Jackie and I chose the Tortellacci with meatballs covered in a rich, creamy white sauce. It was very filling, but based on my samplings of both the lasagna and the pizza, I think I know what I'm going to order my next visit. All of our meals included a tasty salad and unlimited bread basket. Luigi's is open Tuesdays - Sundays from 5:00pm - 9:00m. They are closed on Mondays.
Of all the times I've stopped by the shops right here in my Mountain Shadows neighborhood at Centennial and Vindicator, it wasn't until recently that the Josh & John's I assumed all this time was a coffee shop or tavern is actually an ice cream shop. It was nearly 9:30pm Saturday night when I got there and they were still getting lots of traffic in the store. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they're open as late as 11:00pm (midnight at the downtown store) on some nights. That's unusual for Colorado Springs! My server suggested the Oatmeal Cookie ice cream and I had it topped off with some Ghirardelli hot fudge. Delicious! Josh & John's has two locations, one downtown and the other in Mountain Shadows. Stop by to say hello and enjoy some awesome local homemade ice cream!
