Good food at reasonable prices. This was my first time so I had no idea what to expect. They have ample seating for larger groups. Service was quick, the staff was friendly, and the food was tasty. I tried the fried chicken as recommended by my waitress. It had a light and flavorful crispy batter. The mashed potatoes were real and the gravy was delicious as well. My other side was the potato salad, but there are other sides you can choose as well. Big Train is located on North Nevada just north of Fillmore in the same parking lot as K-Mart. They do have limited evening hours so please call ahead before making the trip there just to verify how late they will be open. Big Train is family owned and has been serving Colorado Springs for over 50 years.

[Permanently Closed] Nearly two months in operation, The Deli Restaurant on Centennial (north of Garden of the Gods Road) is serving up some great tasting selections. They're located in the shopping center across the street from A&W/KFC and behind (east) of Marigold Cafe. Kate took great care of me and the chef made my cheeseburger look so good I hated to mess it up by eating it! It was one of the best looking and tasting burgers I've had in a long time and still priced about the same as a comparable burger combo at the name brand fast-food chains! The seasoned fries are included. I also couldn't resist trying the Cajun Bean Soup. It was perfectly seasoned, just right spicy, and delicious! The Black & White cookies are imported from New York City and were featured on the Seinfeld TV show. Stop by and give this place a try, and let them know you heard about them on the DiscoverCOS.com website.
UPDATE 9/01/2016 This restaurant has closed permanently. We will miss them.
Great local food...FAST! My favorite, the Big Island Burger, consists of four beef patties and four slices of cheese. With fries and a drink this combo is sure to leave you feeling oh so satisfied! Drifters has two Colorado Springs locations. One is at the corner of Garden of the Gods Road and Mark Dabling (east of I-25) and the other on the north side of Chapel Hills Mall on Jamboree just east of Academy Blvd. Californians I know say this is like the In&Out burgers they love so much.
Today's lunch at Mountain Shadows Restaurant was awesome. Tara and crew made us feel right at home in the comfy-homelike setting. Phyllis had the Country Omelette and I had the Chicken Fried Steak. Everything was delicious and the portions were very generous. The wall textures and window casings reminded me of being at my grandparents home in Ohio. If you're in the mood for some great comfort food this is the place. They're only open for breakfast and lunch between 7:00am - 3:00pm.
At Margo's Vienna Station you can count on delicious when you're hankering a good hot dog. A friend of mine from Chicago was the first to introduce me to this place. My two favorites are the Chicago and the Maxwell. There are quite a few other selections and combos on the menu too. Margo's has limited hours that vary per season, so call ahead if you want to ensure they'll be open when you're in the mood.

Members of UnitedCOS met for lunch today. Our group of 20 enjoyed great food and service from the staff at the Briargate location. From the endless chips and salsa options, including my favorite, pineapple-habanero, to the entrees and drink refills, everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy their selections. They've been named the Best Mexican Restaurant in Colorado Springs for several years now, and it's easy to see why this family-owned mexican restaurant is so popular among locals and visitors alike. Salsa Brava has three locations in the Springs area.
[Permanently Closed] They claim to have the "Best Ruben In Colorado Springs" and I would have to agree, it's delicious! Oh, and they do have some awards on the walls to back up their claim. I'm not a huge fan of rye bread, but theirs is a light rye and the staff seem to know just how to make grilled sandwiches just right. Four Air Force Academy graduates and their families own and operate this great food court cafe located in the Chapel Hills Mall. Stop by and try the Ruben and see if you agree.
Update 8/20/2016: The owners of this restaurant decided not to renew their lease at the mall and have ceased operation. We will miss them.
My second visit to Adams Mountain Cafe was just as enjoyable as the first. We chose the Senegalese Vegetables, an Adam's classic dish of Peanut Sauce tossed with Snow Peas, Carrots, Onions, Celery, Cauliflower and Potatoes, Finished with Currants, Scallions and Roasted Almonds and served over Brown Rice. We also had the Pear and Pecan Salad, Organic greens and fresh pear, candied pecans and house calvados vinaigrette served with a Great harvest high fiber roll and butter. Everything was delicious! Dinner was accompanied by live acoustic guitar selections by the talented Wayne Hammerstadt. It was a very enjoyable evening!
Today I introduced another friend to the Baklava at this awesome family-owned cafe in Manitou Springs. This time I had the Iced Sage Tea with it. We'll be returning soon for lunch or dinner as they have some great menu options. Parking is no longer free in Manitou Springs, but it's very inexpensive and I like to think that it helps the quaint village recoup some of the immense losses they've experienced in recent years due to severe flooding after the forest fires.
